About Mary

Mary grew up in Black Mountain and has been a resident of the Swannanoa Valley in Buncombe County all of her life. She graduated from Owen High School and attended East Tennessee State University where she studied Dental Hygiene and Health Education and later received her Master’s degree in Public Health.

Mary loves living in the mountains of Western North Carolina. She knows the area and it’s history well and her family has been a part of it for more than a century. One of her favorite pastimes is driving along the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway with hiking boots, camera and, sometimes, picnic basket in tow. Eating along the Parkway is a must. If not a picnic basket, then there will definitely be a stop at one of the restaurants along the way. When time constraints keep her from enjoying the Parkway, she is just as content walking around her neighborhood or local park and talking with neighbors who are doing the same.

Mary’s interest in Real Estate began right after college when her family would vacation at Sunset Beach, N.C. and she would dream of one day owning a vacation home at the beach. She admits she still dreams of the vacation home, but on her 34th birthday, she made the largest purchase of her life when she bought her own home in Swannanoa. The house needed a lot of work, but she saw it’s potential and with hammer and chisel in hand, she began demolition on it to fix it up immediately after closing. In the next few years of ownership, she learned a lot about carpentry, painting, gardening and the joys of yardwork. Several years later, she sold that first house after making significant improvements to it, many of which she did herself.

Owning that first home was one of the best experiences of her life. Mary obtained her N.C. Real Estate License and joined Weichert, Realtors—Mountain Executives to help people realize that same feeling of satisfaction that comes with home ownership and to make selling your home or property a pleasant experience.
